How to Edit, Cancel & Delete an Amazon FBA Shipping Plan

Last modified date

We all make mistakes, especially when creating an Amazon FBA shipping plan. Sometimes, you realize that you need to change something, reduce or increase the number of units, or even update the delivery window to keep your account in good standing. Whatever the reason, I’m going to walk you through how to edit, cancel, or delete a shipping plan so you can fix any issues you encounter.

Why You May Need to Edit or Cancel a Shipping Plan

Some common reasons for modifying or canceling a shipping plan include:

  • Changing the number of units to be sent in.
  • Updating the delivery window (especially important given Amazon’s recent changes to inbound shipping requirements).
  • Correcting mistakes in box content or shipment details.

It’s crucial to keep your delivery window accurate. If your shipment doesn’t arrive within the specified window, it can negatively affect your account health.

Editing a Shipping Plan

The options you have for editing a shipping plan depend on what stage you left off in creating it.

If You Haven’t Completed the Shipping Plan

If you started the shipping plan but didn’t finish all the steps (e.g., abandoned it halfway), you can still make changes.

  1. Go to Manage Inventory Page:

    • Head over to your Manage Inventory page.
    • From the dropdown next to your product, select Send/Replenish Inventory.
  2. Access Active Workflows:

    • At the top, click Active Workflows.
    • You’ll see a list of all the workflows you’ve started, along with the last modified date.
    • Find the shipping plan you want to edit, then click Switch to This Workflow.
  3. Edit the Plan:

    • You’ll be taken back to where you left off, and you can make the necessary changes.

If You’ve Completed Step 2 (Accepted Charges and Confirmed Shipping)

If you’ve already clicked on Accept Charges and Confirm Shipping, you’ll have more limited options for editing.

  1. Go to Shipment Queue:

    • Navigate to Inventory > Shipments to find your shipment.
    • Click on Work on Shipment.
  2. Edit Shipping Details:

    • You can enter a tracking number if you haven’t already.
    • Change shipping carrier or update the delivery window. This is crucial to avoid any negative impact on your account health if your shipment arrives outside the specified window.
    • You can also update the shipment details and boxing configurations in Step 3, such as:
      • Print box labels.
      • Edit box size, weight, and content.
      • Adjust the number of units being shipped (but only up to 5% or 6 units per SKU per shipment, whichever is greater).

Pro Tip:

Name your shipments something identifiable (e.g., Can Openers – 10 units) rather than leaving the default workflow name Amazon assigns. This makes it easier to manage multiple shipments.

Canceling or Deleting a Shipping Plan

There are several scenarios where you might need to cancel or delete a shipping plan:

  1. Changes Beyond Editable Options: If you need to modify something that isn’t editable, canceling might be your only choice.
  2. Freeing Up Storage Space: Unused shipping plans tie up your available storage capacity. This can prevent you from creating new shipments if you’re near your storage limits.

How Unused Shipping Plans Affect Storage Space

Whenever you create a shipping plan, Amazon allocates your available storage space for the units specified in that plan. Even if you don’t use the plan, the space is reserved until you delete or cancel the shipping plan.

To check your storage limits:

  • Go to the bottom of the Shipping Queue page.
  • You’ll see Storage and Restock Limits grouped by product tier (e.g., Standard Size, Oversized).

If you run into storage limit issues when creating a new plan, go back and cancel old unused shipping plans.

How to Delete a Shipping Plan

  1. Navigate to Shipment:

    • Go to Inventory > Shipments and find the shipping plan you want to cancel.
  2. Delete the Plan:

    • Click on Work on Shipment.
    • Scroll to the bottom and select Delete Shipment and Charges.

Note: Shipping plans will automatically expire and be marked as Closed after 90 days. You won’t be able to make changes to closed plans.

Pro Tip:

If a shipping plan is closed but the shipment is still on its way, don’t worry! Amazon will still receive the shipment as long as the shipping labels are valid.

For Partnered Carrier Plans:

If you used the Partnered Carrier Program, canceling the shipment within 24 hours will refund the shipping charges. If more than 24 hours have passed, the charges won’t be refunded.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re making adjustments, freeing up storage space, or completely starting over, knowing how to manage your shipping plans effectively is a vital part of keeping your Amazon FBA business running smoothly.
